Which foods are offered to Hindu Gods and why?

In Hinduism, offering food is most important and compulsory. It is said that there are about 33 crore god and goddesses as per Hindu shastras and myths. Most of the temples of these gods are present in India and other Asian countries. There are many rituals while doing puja to god and goddesses. Offering food is one of them. Food is being offered in the feeling of kindness and thankful to god. Food is important for every human being. Normally we believe that our body is made up of five elements, earth, water, fire, air and space. And all these referred to gods as per Hindu mythology. Therefore, our body is a combination God; simply every human being is a God. So, before eating anything we first offer to God in sense of humility and thankful for providing this beautiful body to this soul. 

There are many rules of preparing Prasad for god. The first and foremost is the food should be pure vegetarian (without onion and garlic also) cooked in clean utensils. Second thing without tasting the food it should be kept for bhog or Prasad. The person offering food must have good & peaceful mindset.
