Every country has a national flag, each with some special symbol, color and meaning. Frequently, the colors and symbols are significant; which have very vital hidden meaning and story behind it. The Vexillologists (or flag experts) have revealed some of the secret hidden meaning and stories of iconic country flags that everyone must know.
Australian Flag:
In 1953, by means of a Commonwealth Act of Parliament – the British Blue flag was proclaimed as the National Flag of Australia. The meaning of seven points in the stars represents the unity of six states and seven territories of the Commonwealth of Australia.
Canadian Flag:
Adopted in 15, February 1965 the Canadian Flag is the ratio of 1:2:1 of red and white colors. The red represents the red cross of England’s patron saint and the white about the French royal emblem. In the center, the leaf of Canada’s national tree; the maple.
Chinese Flag:
The red color symbolizes the revolution of communist party in China; the large star represents the party and four small stars represent to four social classes of China i.e. the working class, the peasantry, the urban petite bourgeoisies, and the national bourgeoisies.
Danish Flag:
It is believed that the Danish flag was derived from the battle of banners of crusaders, the Christian warriors. Demark is the oldest kingdom of Europe and according to legend, the flag fell from the sky during a war with the Estonian Army in 1219.
Germany Flag:
The tricolours black, red and gold are the national colors of Germany. The soldiers of German in the early 1980s wore black coats with red braid and gold buttons.
Greece Flag:
As per the legend people says the nine stripes as goddesses of art the muses. The blue color represent to sea.
Indian Flag:
The topmost color saffron represents to courage and selflessness, white color as honesty, purity and peace; green color as faith, fertility and prosperity of the nation. The centred Ashoka Chakra (wheel) of 24 spokes represents to 24 hours of a day and the its blue color represents to sky and ocean.
Ireland Flag:
It is believed that the green stripe symbolizes to Catholics of Ireland and Orange color as Protestants who fought for William of Orange in 1600s. The flag was adopted in the year 1916.
Italian Flag:
The green color represents the land; the white is the Alps; and the red is blood spilled in Italy’s wars.
Japanese Flag:
The big red circle in the middle represents to Goddess Sun Amaterasu. The flag officially called as Nisshoki, which means sun-mark flag. It is adopted on 13 August, 1999.
Norwegian Flag:
The cross comes from the flags of Sweden and Denmark with which it had been united. The white cross is taken from the Danish flag, and blue were inspired by the cross of Sweden. Overall the design of flag is taken from the French Revolution, and symbolized liberty.
Rwanda Flag:
Blue represents happiness and peace, yellow stands for economic development and green is for hope of prosperity. The sun represents light and enlightenment. The new flag was adopted in 25th October 2001.
Spanish Flag:
The four shields in the center of the Spanish flag commemorate the four ancient kingdoms of Spain—Castile (the castle), Léon (the lion), Aragon (stripes), and Navarre (chains).
Swedish Flag:
The Scandinavian cross represents Christianity. The cross may just be dissimilarity on the Danish flag, but according to one legend, 12th-century Swedish king Eric the Holy saw a yellow cross in the blue sky and made this the design for his flag. The last Swedish flag was adopted on 22nd June 1906.
Swiss Flag:
The white cross on the red base represents Christianity. The Red Cross humanitarian organization reversed the colors to create the Red Cross flag in honor of its Swiss founder, Henri Dunant.
UK Flag:
Since 1606, three years after Scotland and England were united as a single kingdom. The flag combines the red and white cross of England’s patron saint, George, and the blue and white cross of Scotland’s patron saint, Andrew.
USA Flag:
The 50 stars on the flag represent to 50 states of United States of America and the 13 stripes are for the 13 colonies that formed the original United States. The flag was adopted on 14th June 1777.
